In this blog post I will be discussing The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and whether Jay Gatsby should be considered a hero.

In the picture above, you can see a photo from the movie The Great Gatsby as Gatsby dances with his love Daisy. Below is a quote from the book which proves Gatsby's great love for Daisy.
“He looked at her the way all women want to be looked at by a man." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Below is a short written piece of mine in which I discuss whether I believe Gatsby should be admired as a hero or if he is a psychopath.
Is Gatsby Admirable or a Psychopath
Gatsby is a very wealthy and mysterious man who came from very humble beginnings and turned his life around. He is a very optimistic man and is obsessed with obtaining the love of Daisy. Throughout his life, Gatsby does many things which prove his greatness and why he should be considered a hero.
His admirable character traits such as his optimism and positive view of himself is unmatched and is one of the many reasons why he dreams so highly. Optimism is a necessity to believeing that life can get better and by doing so, Gatsby views the difficulties of his life as obstacles he must pass to reach his ultimate goal of obtaining Daisy's love.
Gatsby also proves he is admirable and is considered a hero as he takes blame for a crime he didn't commit. When Daisy is driving the car and kills Myrtle, Gatsby takes the blame for her actions and unfortunately pays the concequence which results in his death. His actions to protect and ensure the safety of his one and only love proves why he is considered a hero as he gives his life to protect Daisy.
With his passing, Gatsby dies believing that he had completed his ultimate goal of obtaining the love of Daisy. His death, although unjustified, was the price he had to pay in order to protect Daisy. His infatuation and need to protect Daisy is the main reason why Gatsby is admirable and should be considered a hero.
